Cranberry Sauce

Here’s a simple recipe for homemade cranberry sauce:

Ingredients:
  • 1 bag (12 ounces) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Optional: Orange zest or juice, cinnamon, or nutmeg for added flavor
Instructions:
  1. Rinse the Cranberries:

    • If you’re using fresh cranberries, rinse them thoroughly. If you’re using frozen cranberries, there’s no need to thaw them before cooking.
  2. Combine Ingredients:

    • In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, and water. If you want to add extra flavor, you can include orange zest or a splash of orange juice. You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for warmth.
  3. Cook Over Medium Heat:

    • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
  4. Simmer:

    • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer. Stir occasionally. The cranberries will begin to burst and release their natural pectin, which helps thicken the sauce.
  5. Adjust Consistency and Flavor:

    • Simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. If it’s too thick, you can add a little more water. Taste the sauce and adjust the sweetness if needed by adding more sugar.
  6. Cool:

    • Remove the saucepan from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
  7. Refrigerate:

    • Once cooled, transfer the cranberry sauce to a serving dish and refrigerate. It’s best served chilled.
  8. Serve:

    • Serve the cranberry sauce as a side dish with your Thanksgiving turkey or as a condiment with various dishes.

This basic recipe can be customized according to your taste preferences. Some people like to add chopped nuts, grated ginger, or a splash of brandy for extra complexity. Feel free to experiment and make it your own!
