Deep Fried Calamari Rings

  • 600g squid rings
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 300ml fresh milk
  • 150g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika powder
  • 1 teaspoon cajun seasoning
  • 50g bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder


  1. Wash, drain, and pat the squid to dry with a paper towel. Cut them into rings and place them in a large bowl. Add the milk and the garlic powder and let them soften for 15 minutes and drain.
  2. Mix the paprika powder, Cajun seasoning, breadcrumbs, onion powder, and flour and blend. Coat the squid rings with the flour mixture.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan and deep fry the squid rings until golden brown and crisp and pat the excess oil with a paper towel once taken out of the pan.
  4. Add salt to taste and serve with ketchup or a dip of choice!
